Students want to know that they are making academic progress, and creating a growth portfolio is one way to assist them. A student growth portfolio is a student-centered technique for portfolio development where learning is prioritized. The portfolio assessment encourages learning focused on individual needs through self-evaluation and reflection. It also involves the deliberate gathering of student work that illustrates accomplishments.

Benefits

Allows students to;

  • Identify learning gaps.

  • Develop organization and time-management skills.

  • Decide on future objectives based on data and standards.

  • Reflect on learning by reviewing a wide range of work accumulated throughout time.

  • Plan and manage time to complete activities by analyzing and evaluating progress.

Shortcomings

  • Time-consuming

  • Requires more time for the teacher to give feedback
